Ahead of this weekend’s hugely important game against Liverpool, Manchester United will be hoping that a few senior players will be fit enough to return to the squad.

On Monday night, Jose Mourinho’s side came from behind to beat Crystal Palace 3-2, with a 90th-minute thunderbolt from Nemanja Matic rescuing all three points.

It’s the second time in the last two games that United have come from behind to win but a drastic increase in quality will be needed to beat an in-form Liverpool side.

Although the Merseysiders were held midweek by Porto in the Champions League, there wasn’t much of a contest to be concerned with as the Reds’ 5-0 lead from the first leg meant they could relax at Anfield and progress to the last eight without any real fuss.

According to Goal’s Kris Voakes, United could have Anthony Martial return this weekend after missing out on Monday against Palace. The Frenchman wouldn’t necessarily start with Mourinho needing to find a way to cram Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez, Marcus Rashford, Martial, Lingard and Juan Mata into his incoherent forward line.

Ander Herrera will definitely be unavailable as the Spaniard has a muscle injury while Daley Blind will also miss out as he looks to continue rehab on an ankle issue.

Mourinho could have Marcos Rojo back fit this weekend after he missed out in recent weeks with a knock. Phil Jones has also been absent but his return is less likely.

Fortunately for Liverpool, a player that could stifle their creative talents quite well will be absent as he is not quite near a return yet. That player is Marouane Fellani.

As far as Jurgen Klopp’s players are concerned, he has a full squad available aside from Georginio Wijnaldum who has been struggling with illness for a week now.

In terms of suspensions, Emre Can needs to tread carefully as one more yellow card will see him suspended for accumulating too many bookings.
