Liverpool want to tie Sadio Mane down to a new contract and, according to the ECHO, will offer the Senegal attacker new terms as Jurgen Klopp looks to get his front three committed to the club for the long term.
There has been much talk in the past few days of Liverpool extending both Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah’s contracts. The latter has only been at the club since the summer but his 30 goals this season have convinced the Anfield hierarchy he needs to be tied down.
As Andy Kelly reports for the Liverpool ECHO, steps have already been taken towards ensuring that Firmino’s contract is extended as the Brazilian is crucial to how Klopp’s team performs.
Next up is Sadio Mane who, despite struggling for form at certain intervals this season, is still an invaluable player for Klopp and an electrifying third of a front three that has lit up Europe this season.
Andy Kelly writes for the ECHO that Mane’s current deal is set to expire in 2021 and I understand that Klopp wants it extended to ensure that he is not left in the lurch in a few years’ time when the winger will be in his prime.
Mane’s agent, Bjorn Bezemer of Arena11 sports group, enjoys a healthy relationship with Liverpool. He is also the agent of Naby Keita and there are not expected to be any issues as far as haggling with agents is concerned.
The report does confirm that rumours that Mane will have his wages doubled are false but he will be offered an improved deal.
Mane has scored 12 goals this season – 6 in the Premier League and 6 in the Champions League – and is just one shy of his tally for last season despite criticism over his form this term.
With a place in the Champions League quarter-finals all but booked thanks to a hattrick form the former Southampton forward, it’s clear to see why Liverpool are so keen to see his contract extended.
