Roberto Firmino’s delightful finish against Manchester City has been named Liverpool’s best goal for the month of January.
When Pep Guardiola’s league-leading side rocked up at Anfield, many expected the home side to be in for a footballing lesson as so many other teams have been this season but the energy and finishing on show from Liverpool saw the Reds beat City 4-3.
Although Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was deservedly named Man of the Match on the night, Firmino was right behind the Englishman with his work rate and clever use of the ball a nightmare for City’s defenders.
When Chambo played a ball in behind John Stones with Firmino snapping at his heels, it looked as though the Englishman would be able to safely play the ball back to Ederson and avoid a potentially dangerous situation.
However, Firmino’s wiry frame fooled yet another defender and the Brazilian used his impressive strength to bully Stones off the ball and then went for the most audacious finish – a cheeky lob over Ederson.
The goal has been widely compared to the goal that Robbie Fowler scored against Manchester United back in 1995. It’s one Gary Neville would like to have forgotten by now, with Fowler shrugging the former United defender off the ball with ease.
In a poll on Liverpool’s official website, Firmino’s finish was voted Goal of the Month for January, beating Mo Salah and Sadio Mane to the accolade.

With 19 goals and 10 assists in all competitions this season, it’s safe to say that Bobby Firmino is in the form of his life and with plenty football to play before the campaign is wrapped up, there is only more time to improve on his numbers.
Liverpool travel to Southampton this weekend and following that, the much-anticipated Champions League Round of 16 first leg against Porto. Firmino will be hugely important for the Reds’ chances of success as Jurgen Klopp aims to guide his side deep into the tournament.
