According to reports in Spain, James Rodriguez wants to kickstart his career by moving to England and Liverpool is his preferred destination.

Wow. So, at the time of writing, the month of January and the accompanying transfer window has only been closed for a matter of hours and yet there are already reports linking Liverpool with summer deals.

I guess that’s the current state of the football world but damn, take a break, guys. You could always take a minute to laugh at Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal losing in the last couple days.

Anyway, El Gol Digital report that with James Rodrigues set to return to Real Madrid at the end of the season after being loaned to Bayern Munich, the Colombian midfielder would like to join Liverpool to kickstart his career.

Rodriguez signed for Real Madrid in the wake of a tremendously impressive 2014 World Cup campaign with Colombia, signing for €80 million and then went on loan to Bayern Munich this season to get game time after falling out of favour under Zinedine Zidane.

Since the temporary switch to Germany, however, the playmaker has only made 11 league starts, scoring three goals and providing three assists.

With Philippe Coutinho departing the Reds last month for a whopping £142 million, Jurgen Klopp will be on the lookout for creative talent and although there haven’t been strong links to Rodriguez before, with Thomas Lemar a likely candidate for the summer, I certainly believe James would be a stunning addition to the side.

Despite El Gol Digital reporting that Rodriguez would prefer to move to Liverpool, the fellas at the Liverpool ECHO aren’t convinced and I can’t say I that I’ve been swayed hugely even though I would love to see another South American pulling the strings in midfield for Liverpool.

With the January transfer window now firmly shut, it’s pretty certain that Klopp will need to make do with what he’s got for at least another five months.

Just like you, I am a hugely passionate Liverpool supporter. I started Rousing the Kop in January 2015 and since then it has grown tremendously and has even been nominated as 'Best New Football Blog' in the Football Blogging Awards.

  1. If you can’t buy the players you want you shouldn’t go on a spending spree bringing in players just for the sake of it, and the so called fans should remember the times we have done just that and bought a load of crap.

Personally I am wondering have we already done so with Virgil van Dyke but I’m prepared to give him some time to bed in and not whine about it.
