Jurgen Klopp said on Friday that Mohamed Salah could return to training after coming down with illness and the Egyptian duly reported to Melwood last night.
Liverpool travel to Wales on Monday to face Swansea City and will likely field their strongest possible team with van Dijk fit and Mohamed Salah set to overcome the illness that kept him from Thursday’s double training session at Melwood.
While Klopp would be confident his side could get the job done without Salah, there is no denying he will want the player who has scored 24 goals and provided 7 assists for teammates fit and available as much as possible.
That said, the German manager wasn’t sure yesterday that he would have his £37 million signing in training.
Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com: “Virgil was back yesterday and completely fine. We have a few problems with players feeling ill or unwell.
“Raggy was out, but hopefully back today. Dejan was out. Mo Salah was out, but hopefully back today.
“Mo and Raggy are on the good side of it already, but with Dejan, we are not 100 percent sure [if he will be back today].”
But in photos released by the club late last night, we can see that Salah was present at training while it’s not immediately clear whether Dejan Lovren or Ragnar Klavan were fit enough to train in the cold.
With Manchester United only three points above Liverpool, the Merseysiders will be keen to keep the pressure on their rivals and with an impressive 18 match unbeaten run fuelling them on their travels, most will be backing Klopp’s side to get a result in Wales.
Second place is there for the taking given the uninspiring nature of Jose Mourinho’s team. Even with Alexis Sanchez about to join them, Liverpool are the better side and are better balanced with the arrival of Virgil van Dijk.
