RB Leipzig have confirmed via their official Twitter account that Naby Keita will not be making a “premature winter” transfer to Liverpool.

Although it looked as though Naby Keita might switch to Liverpool six months early, Leipzig have ruled out such a move with a message on social media, ending all speculation that the Guinean could be officially announced as a Liverpool player imminently.

With Philippe Coutinho’s £146 million move to Barcelona confirmed earlier this week, the Reds are in need of a replacement and have plenty of money to spend. Thomas Lemar is a player that Jurgen Klopp is interested in although it looks as though the German will wait until the summer to really look at signing the French midfielder.

Leipzig said on their Twitter: “Naby Keita will remain an RB Leipzig player until 30th June 2018. We wish to put the speculation about a January move to Liverpool to bed.”

Provided that this isn’t a move from Leipzig to force Liverpool’s hand in negotiations and get the Reds to pay more than they would like, it looks as though Keita will need to wait until the summer to join the club.

Sporting director Ralf Rangnick has also said: “We won’t allow @LFC to sign him early, even though they have shown renewed interest to bring him in during this transfer window.”

Liverpool play Manchester City in a few hours and Jurgen Klopp will be focusing on the huge clash before he turns his attention back to how he intends to proceed this season.

He could continue with the current crop of players who possess more than enough quality among them to get the job done or he could have a few tricks up his sleeve to be revealed before February 1st.
