Arsenal are trying to sign Bordeaux attacker Malcom as a replacement for Alexis Sanchez and may well be ready to give up on Thomas Lemar.
Both Liverpool and Arsenal are in need of creative reinforcements with Philippe Coutinho having signed as a Barcelona player and Alexis Sanchez on the precipice of joining Manchester City.
According to the Times, Arsenal are trying to “steal a march on rivals for £45m winger Malcom”. The Brazilian has received rave reviews having scored seven goals and provided four assists this season in just 18 league games for Bordeaux.
Having previously held high interest in AS Monaco midfielder Thomas Lemar, it could be that Arsene Wenger is ready to move on for a cheaper option and this could open the door for Liverpool to sign the hugely talented Frenchman.
From Liverpool’s perspective, this could be huge news if they decide to move in January for a replacement for the recently departed Philippe Coutinho.
Of course, we’re all well aware that Jurgen Klopp could hold off from signing a Lemar or a Riyad Mahrez this month and wait to get his man in the summer in what he would view as the perfect circumstances.
That said, there have been reports from France indicating that Monaco could be about to lower their price for Lemar to around £60 million.
Personally, I would prefer to sign Lemar this month and ensure that the Reds have the best possible opportunity to achieve success in the Premier League, the FA Cup and the Champions League.
This would be preferable, even if it cost the Reds more to sign him now than in the summer.
Going ahead with the season without a replacement for Coutinho could prove costly but Klopp trusts his players and there is enough quality to see the job through in the worst case scenario.
