Guillem Balague update on Barcelona’s move for Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho

La Liga expert Guillem Balague reports that Barcelona have a personal agreement with Philippe Coutinho but that Liverpool are adamant that they won’t sell the player.

Liverpool supporters are very worried that the summer transfer window will close without any new players arriving for the Reds.

An even greater concern, however, is that club talisman Philippe Coutinho will leave to join Barcelona.

It’s a familiar situation with Luis Suarez joining the Catalan giants three years ago soon after signing a contract extension with Liverpool.

These fears exist among the Liverpool fanbase despite Jürgen Klopp regularly insisting that the no.10 won’t be sold this summer.

La Liga expert Guillem Balague confirms that Coutinho has a personal agreement with Barcelona but that Liverpool are adamant that they won’t sell him this summer.

Raphinha, Coutinho and Tielemans: The signings Liverpool could make this summer

Coutinho is vital to Klopp’s team with his work rate under appreciated and a large part of why the German’s geggenpressing system is so effective.

Selling the Brazilian this summer is out of the question with Liverpool finally back in the Champions League and going into the new Premier League season with an outside shout at winning the title.

Balague reports, however, that although Barca have a personal agreement with Coutinho, Liverpool will not sell but that the La Liga giants will look to pressure the Reds into agreeing a deal.

My view on the Coutinho to Barcelona speculation has always been that he will stay at Liverpool for the 2017/18 season but I do think that come the summer of 2018, Coutinho will no longer wear red.

With the 17/18 season holding a lot of promise for Liverpool, I think it’s time to just enjoy Coutinho and expect him to leave in 12 month’s time.

For now, however, the 25-year-old will likely be in action for Liverpool next week against Watford as he looks to return from a back complaint.
