Liverpool have named a 23-man squad for their pre-season friendly against Athletic Bilbao and Jordan Henderson, Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho will all be absent.

With just a week to go until the start of the 2017/18 Premier League season, Liverpool take on Athletic Bilbao today at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

Pre-season has been good for the Reds so far with good wins over Bayern Munich and Hertha Berlin in Germany and Leicester City and Crystal Palace in Hong Kong.

Tonight, however, a new test presents itself in the shape of La Liga outfit Athletic Bilbao. For the clash, Jürgen Klopp has named a 23-man squad with the likes Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané travelling.

Goalkeepers: Simon Mignolet, Loris Karius, Danny Ward

Defenders: Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jon Flanagan, Joe Gomez, Jöel Matip, Dejan Lovren, Ragnar Klavan, Alberto Moreno, James Milner, Andy Robertson

Midfielders: Emre Can, Marko Grujic, Ovie Ejaria, Georginio Wijnaldum, Ben Woodburn

Forwards: Mohamed Salah, Ryan Kent, Roberto Firmino, Divock Origi, Dominic Solanke, Sadio Mané

According to Liverpool’s official website, “Jordan Henderson does not travel due to illness, Daniel Sturridge remains sidelined with a thigh injury, and Philippe Coutinho has a sore back.”

Speculation over Philippe Coutinho’s future has been rife in recent days with Neymar’s mega money move to PSG fuelling rumours that Barcelona are close to signing the Brazilian.

Klopp, however, is absolutely adamant that the no.10 is going nowhere and it’s likely that Coutinho’s exclusion from the squad for the friendly today is nothing more than a precaution.

Liverpool’s clash with Bilbao kicks off at 5.15pm BST, with live coverage available on LFCTV and LFCTV GO.
