Despite a midweek announcement from Liverpool Football Club, Sadio Mané is expected to be available to Jürgen Klopp for the Premier League Asia Trophy.

On Wednesday, Jürgen Klopp spoke to Liverpool’s official website about Sadio Mané’s injury situation, indicating he would he would remain at Melwood to continue his recovery from a knee injury suffered in April against Everton.

Klopp said, “He is really, really good. He is close; he is closing on coming back to team training.

“In this moment, we think it will be when we are in Asia, so then it makes no sense to take him to Asia because he needs to then do the first steps in kind of team training. We will see how we can do it; maybe [some of] the U23s will be here, so when he can start this [training] then we can use this opportunity, but we have to wait.”

Today, however, Andy Kelly of the Liverpool Echo indicates that “Sadio Mané [is] also expected to return in Hong Kong.”

The Senegal attacker’s return would be a great boost for Jürgen Klopp as it would mean he would be able to test out how he could line his side up next season with Salah, Firmino, Coutinho and Mané all superb options.

Having Salah and Mané on opposite flanks is a mouth-watering proposition for supporters and one which Klopp is likely to be very happy about as it means he will have two pacy options in his side heading into the new season.

With Salah scoring 19 goals last season and Mané 13, Liverpool officially have a goal threat from wide areas with Philippe Coutinho also a veritable threat coming in from the left flank.

Regardless of how Klopp sets up for the 2017/18 season, it’s clear that goals will be on the agenda but Liverpool’s defence still needs to be addressed.
