Reports indicate that Liverpool are interested in signing AS Monaco’s Thomas Lemar this summer as the Reds look to bring in a new midfielder.
According to Telefoot, Jürgen Klopp is interested in bringing Lemar to Anfield in order to add more quality and depth to his ranks. Mohamed Salah is believed to be close to a Liverpool move and signing Lemar would mean extra depth in attack.
Liverpool aren’t the only club interested, however, with Arsenal, Spurs and Juventus all keen on signing the French midfielder.
Since arriving from SM Caen for a measly £3.5 million in 2015, Lemar has scored 14 goals and created a further 17. At just 21 years of age, the Monaco midfielder is one of the most exciting young talents in Ligue 1.
With pace, skill and creativity, Lemar is right up there with Kylian Mbappe as one of France’s most exciting young players and would be the perfect signing for Liverpool.
Klopp is famed for developing attackers into world class talents with the likes of Marco Reus and Robert Lewandowski a testament to his abilities as a coach.
With Lemar valued at just £26 million, Liverpool would jump at the chance of signing a player with so much potential.
That being said, it’s unlikely he would agree to a move without the guarantee of regular football, especially if Mohamed Salah signs for Liverpool.
With Liverpool set to rejoin the big boys in the Champions League next season, quality and depth is needed and Lemar would bring both with his arrival.
Not only would he add depth to a small squad, he would drum up competition in a team which had very little competition for starting berths last season.
For now, Lemar is little more than a name on a list for Liverpool but he may well be a player that could strengthen Klopp’s side next season.
