According to Ian Doyle of The Liverpool Echo, the Reds could turn to Sporting Lisbon’s Gelson Martins as an alternative to Mohamed Salah.
Liverpool need more options in attack next season and Jürgen Klopp has identified Portuguese winger Gelson Martins as a potential alternative to Mohamed Salah.
With AS Roma demanding upwards of £35 million, Liverpool are fearful of being priced out of a move for the pacy Egyptian and have started looking elsewhere.
Ian Doyle also reports that there is definite interest in Douglas Costa who has received limited game time at Bayern Munich. The timeless Arjen Robben’s continued excellence has seen Costa playing a lot less than he would prefer. Lazio’s talented Keita Balde is also a player being monitored.
Gelson Martins, however, is s target of significance and can play on both wings. The Portuguese attacker scored seven goals and provided 14 assists in all competitions for Sporting last season.
The Echo claims that Sporting value the winger at £50 million although, having not made it into the Champions League, they are in a position where they need to sell to ease their financial burden.
Liverpool are still in with a shout of landing Mohamed Salah but are looking at other options in the event that Roma maintain their high asking price.
Sadio Mané signed from Southampton last season for £34 million and the Senegal attacker was an instant hit with supporters. His AFCON and injury-enforced absences meant that Liverpool were without his pacy presence for a couple months of the season and Klopp is looking to avoid a similar situation next season by signing a new winger.
