According to David Armitage of The Daily Star, Liverpool is not likely to sign Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel this summer.

Since Pepe Reina left Liverpool, there has been a total absence of authority and class in the goalkeeping department. Simon Mignolet was signed to challenge him and he subsequently left the club, much to the disappointment of supporters for the ensuing years.

While Liverpool has been toiling in the Premier League, Pepe Reina has been doing excellently for Napoli in Serie A and the Champions League.

Various ‘keepers have been linked with moves to Liverpool and one name that has caught the fancy of supporters is Leicester City’s Kasper Schmeichel.

According to The Daily Star, Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City are all ready to move for the Danish international.

Yet, despite being reported as being ready to make a move to sign Schmeichel, comments from Leicester boss Craig Shakespeare would indicate that the Premier League winning goalkeeper isn’t leaving the club anytime soon.

When asked if he thinks his shot-stopper will at the club next season, Shakespeare said, I do.

“He’s in the form of his life and he’s happy here. He’s been very, very professional and his level of performance shows that. He’s a very strong character. I’m not aware of any interest in him. Ultimately, I think Kasper is happy here. He’s under a long-term contract with us and if bids come in we don’t need to sell him.”

Having recently switch up his representation, speculation has indicated the Dane could leave the club but Craig Shakespeare isn’t fussed.

“He’s perfectly entitled to change his agent,” he said.

“I don’t have a problem with players wanting to progress. We’ve had no offers so we will cross that bridge when we come to it. ”

Although Liverpool has had their issues between the sticks, Simon Mignolet has come through for the Reds in recent weeks. The Belgian is in fine form and finishing the season in a positive way could see him remain as Liverpool’s number one goalkeeper for next season.

With regards to Schmeichel, Liverpool is unlikely to sign him but United might if David De Gea leaves to join Real Madrid this summer. The Dane is said to want to follow in his father’s footsteps at United.
