Manchester United to challenge Liverpool for summer transfer target

According to The Daily Mirror, Manchester United are also interested in Fulham starlet Ryan Sessegnon.

Liverpool are looking into signing Fulham’s highly rated 17-year-old left back Ryan Sessegnon but will face competition for his signature from Manchester United amongst others.

Jürgen Klopp shocked many fans and pundits by playing James Milner at left back this season, although it has worked largely to great effect.

Alberto Moreno was dropped after just one game this season with his defensive showings against Arsenal on the opening day of the season not good enough to warrant him a place in the side for a trip to Turf Moor to play Burnley.

The Spaniard’s poor defensive positioning and rash tackling led to a penalty being given away at the Emirates Stadium, which Simon Mignolet duly saved – but that’s not the point is it?

According to The Daily Mirror, Manchester United are the latest club to enquire about Sessegnon’s future with Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham all interested in the young fullback’s future.

Raphinha, Coutinho and Tielemans: The signings Liverpool could make this summer

Having scored seven goals in this season’s Championship from left back, there is no doubting his quality and Manchester United want to be the club to harness that talent.

The Mirror notes that Liverpool are long-term admirers of Sessegnon.

Fulham have rejected an offer from Arsenal in the past but loaning the youngster back to the Championship side could be of interest to the Cottagers. With Liverpool looking for a new left back but Sessegnon only 17 years of age, it’s likely that he’s a long-term option.
