As part of an annual tradition, reports have begun once again linking Lucas Leiva with a move to Turkey but it would seem as though his wages might obstruct any potential deal.
Lucas Leiva signed from Gremio 10 years ago and it would seem as though since he signed for Liverpool, media outlets have linked him with a move to Turkey and nothing has every materialised.
This time round, Fotospor claim that Lucas’ wants to continue on his £80,000-a-week wages that he gets at Liverpool as well as receive a £1.5m signing on fee. This is said to be an issue for Galatasaray and what was said to be a potential move for Lucas after his 10-year stay on Merseyside is falling apart.
Many supporters hold Lucas close to their hearts with the Brazilian an endearing figure in the Liverpool camp. While he has never been one for the spectacular, his effective tackling in the engine room isn’t what is used to be and there have been calls for the midfielder to leave this summer.
Regardless of whether or not Liverpool sell Lucas or keep him on for his experience and that extra depth, he won’t be a start next season.
With the Reds likely to finish in the top four this season, Naby Keita has been identified as a top target for Jürgen Klopp’s summer recruitment plan and this would certainly leave Lucas on the bench and on some days, left out of the matchday squad.
Liverpool are targeting a return to the peaks of English football and the Champions League and as much as I love Lucas Leiva, he’s not a player that can aid in this agenda.
