Liverpool have been dealt a blow in their bid to sign Premier League defender Michael Keane, according to The Telegraph.
If Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat at home against Crystal Palace is anything to go by, the Reds need a new centre-back. Dejan Lovren was in terrible form and made two costly errors which saw Christian Benteke given the opportunity to score against his old club.
That being said, there’s every chance it won’t be Burnley’s Michael Keane.
The Clarets centre-back is hot property and, according to The Telegraph, Liverpool are down the pecking order to sign him with Keane said to be eyeing a summer move to Tottenham.
Liverpool’s chances of qualifying for the Champions League next season took a knock on Sunday with their 2-1 capitulation against Crystal Palace.
Jürgen Klopp needs defensive reinforcements and has been highly tipped to sign Southampton man Virgil Van Dijk. That being said, however, signing the Dutchman would almost definitely require the Reds to finish in the top four places and now, with Manchester United three points behind and having two games in hand, Liverpool need to rely on other sides to get the job done for them once more.
Naby Keita is also a top target for Liverpool, who need more steel and energy in the middle of the park. Once more, with RB Leipzig in the top four of the Bundesliga, failing to make it into the Champions League next season wouldn’t be enough to sign a midfielder which every top club in Europe is looking at.
With the race for Champions League hotting up, Liverpool need to tighten things up and close out the season in order to ensure that transfer targets aren’t missed out on as has been the case in the past.
It’s all to do for Liverpool now, but it’s not over.
