Champions League could tempt Alexandre Lacazette to move to Liverpool

With Liverpool the odds-on favourites to finish in the top four, Alexandre Lacazette could be tempted to join the Reds over Arsenal.

With Daniel Sturridge likely to leave this summer, Danny Ings perennially injured and Divock Origi an uncut diamond, Liverpool need a new forward this summer.

Olympique Lyon forward Alexandre Lacazette is looking for a new club at the end of this season and Liverpool need to make sure they are the club to sign the Frenchman.

Given that Arsenal look almost certain to fail in their annual quest for Champions League qualification, Lacazette could be headed to Anfield in the summer.

According to RMC, Liverpool will look to offer Alexandre Lacazette the chance to play in the Premier League and the Champions League next season.

With 24 goals in 27 Ligue 1 games, Lacazette is a player who is almost capable of achieving a positive goal to game ratio. While detractors might suggest that the French league is below par, the French striker also has four goals and an assist in the Europa League.

Paul Joyce suggested this week that Jürgen Klopp will not be signing a ‘focal point’ striker but I believe that, given Liverpool’s lack of options up front if Sturridge leaves or gets injured, he has no choice.

Danny Ings is just as unreliable as Sturridge is and Liverpool can’t harbour ambitions of winning silverware next season without a strike force of note. This might seem daft when you consider Liverpool are the Premier League’s top scorers with 69 goals in 33 games but there have been times when a natural striker has been sorely lacking.

Heading into next season, Liverpool could either have a squad vastly improved and ready for a title challenge or understocked and behind the rest of the Premier League big guns as always.

With Alexandre Lacazette looking for a new club this season, Liverpool have an absolutely golden opportunity to sign a genuinely world-class striker before another club snatches him up as has been the case in recent times.

With players like Naby Keita and Virgil Van Dijk reported as being pursued by the club, there is a real chance we could see the spine of Liverpool’s team reinforced drastically by August.

But that’s only if Klopp and those around him seize the opportunity.
