According to reports, Philippe Coutinho is excited by the prospect of a move to Barcelona this summer and the Catalan giants could offer cash plus Ivan Rakitic to persuade Liverpool to sell the Brazilian midfielder.

Every Liverpool fan’s worst nightmare could turn to reality this summer. With reports indicating that Barcelona are seriously intent on signing Coutinho, it’s going to take very serious resolve from Jürgen Klopp to both reject Barcelona and convince Coutinho that Liverpool is the place for him.

Sport, via the Metro, report that Coutinho is ready to leave the club this summer to join Barcelone despite signing a new contract with Liverpool. The Brazilian is ‘enthusiastic’ about linking up with Luis Suarez and Neymar at Barcelona.

It’s quite understandable for Coutinho to be excited about playing with players like Lionel Messi, Suarez and Neymar. Joining Barcelona almost guarantees trophies and given Liverpool’s lack of trophies since Coutinho arrived from Inter Milan, it might be a motivating factor in his decision to transfer.

According to Don Balo, via the Mirror, Barcelona are prepared to offer cash plus the very talented Ivan Rakitic in order to persuade Liverpool to part ways with Coutinho.

Coutinho’s recent contract extension does not include a buyout clause which will afford Liverpool something of an upper hand in any negotiating.

It has also been reported that James Rodriguez could sign for Liverpool if the Reds qualify for the Champions League this season. I believe that this is purely an example of prime silly season arriving slightly early this year.

Jürgen Klopp has a job on his hands to either ensure that Coutinho remains on Merseyside or to replace the Brazilian with a player of similar talents, although it will be difficult to find another 24-year-old willing to move who possesses similar abilities and is also as hardworking as Coutinho.

Personally, I wouldn’t sell Coutinho if Barcelona offered £70 million and Ivan Rakitic. There is too much ahead of the former Inter Milan midfielder to sell him yet.
