According to Sport, Philippe Coutinho is keen on a move to Barcelona and have discussions started regarding a summer transfer from Liverpool to the Catalan giants.
As poor as Philippe Coutinho has been in the last month and a half, he has to stay at Liverpool. Without him, the Reds lose a massively influential footballer and one who has become a talisman since the departures of Luis Suarez and Raheem Sterling.
That being said, Sport, via the Metro, suggests that the 24-year-old playmaker is ready to leave Liverpool at the end of the season. Coutinho is said to be ‘enthusiastic‘ about a move to Barcelona where he would be reunited with Suarez and paired up with compatriot and best mate Neymar.
Coutinho has also received an offer from Paris Saint-Germain but it’s clear why he would be more keen on a move to Barcelona than to PSG.
Just earlier this week, Neymar said he would like to have Coutinho at the club which doesn’t bode well for Liverpool. Typically, when Barcelona comes knocking, the door is opened.
“A Premier League player that I would like to have in Barcelona is Coutinho,” he told the Daily Mail.
“I believe he is a player that would totally fit in Barcelona.“
It’s going to be an uphill battle for Liverpool to keep hold of Coutinho if Barcelona are really interested. I imagine Coutinho’s lack of consistency would be an issue for Barca, though.
If Barcelona come knocking, I expect that Klopp would have a real chat with Coutinho and speak to him about what he could become at Liverpool if he stays. Loyalty is rewarded on Merseyside and the supporters would adore Coutinho even more if he rejected Barcelona to stay at Liverpool.
Qualifying for the Champions League this season will be important as Coutinho is an ambitious player and deserves to be playing in Europe’s elite competition every season.
