Respected football pundit and former Liverpool hero Stan Collymore has controversial transfer advice for Jürgen Klopp in that he wants the club to sell Philippe Coutinho this summer.

The Reds have been in decent form this season but were not able to find consistency in the first couple of months of the New Year as they lost some ground at the top of the table.

They are now in the middle of a fight for Champions League qualification and Liverpool have no chance of winning any silverware before the end of the season.

But even in a season like this, Liverpool fans were given some encouragement after the club was able to fend off interests from some of the biggest clubs in Europe to sign Brazil star Philippe Coutinho on a long-term deal earlier this year.

The 24-year-old, who has six goals and five assists in the Premier League so far this season is growing into one of the best in his position in Europe and was linked with a move to Catalan giant Barcelona, who reportedly identified him as a replacement for Andres Iniesta in the long term.

However, Klopp managed to get Coutinho to sign a new contract without a release clause, which tells us that Liverpool have no intention of letting him go anytime soon.

But that is not what one Collymore thinks.

The 46-year-old pundit claims that Coutinho has not been consistent enough for a club like Liverpool and suggested that Klopp should sell him for the right price in the summer to try and add a better player to the squad if possible.

In his column for Boyle Sports he wrote, “Coutinho is a great six games a season player, when we all salute his little genius, goals and creativity and I know he’s been injured but I’m just not sure Liverpool will ever be able to hang their hat on him to guarantee big performances week in, week out.

“The fact Lallana and Mané have kicked on under Klopp so much more than the little Brazilian tells my intuition that if one of the Iberian giants were to tickle the Reds fancy, even having signed a bumper contract, I personally would sell him if the price were right.

“I would get a more dominating physical presence like Mané in that attacking three. Controversial I know but Phil just isn’t that consistent.”

Coutinho was the best player for Liverpool in the last couple of seasons and though he has lost his form since returning from injury, he is a big game player who can make things happen and Liverpool should not even contemplate selling him.
