Bayern Munich have been tipped as the front-runners to sign RB Leipzig’s industrious midfielder Naby Keita but the club’s sporting director has ruled out Bayern Munich’s interest.
Liverpool are looking to sign a new midfielder this summer and Naby Keita is reportedly a top target as Klopp looks to add some class to his side. The Leipzig midfielder is having a storming season in Germany and has been crucial to his side’s push for Champions League football.
Keita has been compared to Chelsea’s N’Golo Kanté as a result of his energetic style of play. Both midfielders are very good at breaking down play but Keita is more adept at attacking than Kanté is, despite the brilliant goal he scored at Stamford Bridge against Manchester United in the FA Cup last night.
Signing a player of Keita’s quality wouldn’t just improve the starting lineup but it would also go a long way to ensuring there is more quality on the bench as one of Adam Lallana or Georginio Wijnaldum would be forced to drop to the bench.
Yet, RB Leipzig might prove difficult to deal with as their sporting director Ralf Rangnick has denied that Bayern Munich are interested at all. Munich are supposedly the front runners in the race to sign Keita but if Rangnick is to be believed, there is no interest from the Bavarians.
“I don’t know anything about Bayern interest. Naby’s an extraordinary player who could play in any European top team,” he told Sport1 Doppelpass.
Rangnick also repeated that Keita has no release clause in his contract which will mean that signing the Guinean footballer will not depend on Liverpool’s ability to trigger a set value.
Considering there are still two months of the season to go, worrying about signing players isn’t of the utmost importance just yet. Klopp needs to focus more on securing Champions League football before genuine transfer negotiations can behgin.
