Steven Gerrard has urged Liverpool to look into signing Borussia Dortmund goal-machine Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this summer.
Liverpool might need to move for a new centre-forward this summer with Daniel Sturridge likely to leave. West Ham are reportedly interested looking to replace Andy Carroll and the former Chelsea man could be the one to replace him at the London club.
There are a number of forwards that Jürgen Klopp and his trusted coaching assistants could look at signing. Alexandre Lacazette’s exploits with Lyon are attracting a lot of attention and has been tipped to move to Merseyside. The Frenchman would be an ideal fit for Liverpool but Steven Gerrard wants Dortmund’s hitman Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The Liverpool legend wants his boyhood club to invest this summer in a forward that can take the Reds to the next level and has identified Aubameyang as one who can that. That being said, he admits that there will be serious competition to sign the Gabon international.
“Yeah, but if he’s in this type of form, he’ll alert a lot of clubs not just Liverpool,” said Gerrard, per the Daily Mail. “He attacks the frame all the time and he gets tap-ins because of his movement.”

Aubameyang is the Bundesliga’s top goalscorer with 22, one more than Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski. That kind of goal return could be massive for Liverpool with there being a lack of a real striking presence at the club. Furthermore, Aubameyang scored a hat-trick against Benfica in the Champions League and his experience of the tournament could really help a side that hasn’t played in the competition before.
Liverpool will play Manchester City this Sunday in a game which is absolutely crucial in their push for Champions League football. Victory over the Citizens will firmly establish the Reds in the fight for the top four places although Arsenal and both Manchester clubs have games in hand over Liverpool.
Securing passage to next season’s Champions League will be essential for Liverpool to have any hope of signing Lacazette or Aubameyang.
