Writing in his column for the Mirror, Stan Collymore has urged Jürgen Klopp to go all out and sign Alexis Sánchez this summer.
When Arsenal played Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday evening, Alexis Sánchez had been dropped to the bench. The hosts went 2-0 up by half time thanks to goals from Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mané but once Arsene Wenger was forced to bring Sánchez on, the forward changed the game completely.
Whereas the first half allowed Liverpool to attack with little fear of being countered, the second half meant that Jürgen Klopp’s side had to resort to counter attacks to have goalscoring chances.
This was all due to the effect that Sánchez had on the game. There was a moment in the second half when he cut in from the left wing on the halfway line and Emre Can had little choice but to deliberately foul him to halt him in his tracks.
Sánchez has played as a false nine this season as Wenger has looked to play his natural style of play without playing Olivier Giroud.
Stan Collymore believes that Sánchez is what Liverpool need. Well, not Liverpool, per say…
Collymore wrote in his column: “I am pleading for Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool – any of the teams to finish in the top four with the money – to go and put in a bid for him, tell him you will put your arm around him and win trophies with him.
“I could see Conte, Pep Guardiola, Jose Mourinho or Jürgen Klopp all saying that to him and making him their top man.
“Sánchez was dropped by Arsène Wenger for the Liverpool game on Saturday and I think this situation has been brewing for a while.”
Liverpool are perfect for Sánchez. The Chilean’s tireless presence up front combined with his peerless finishing would certainly take Liverpool to the next level. It would mean that Roberto Firmino would have to play elsewhere but sacrifices need to be made in order to progress.
