Contrary to all information available regarding Mamadou Sakho over the last year, Jürgen Klopp hasn’t ruled out a return for the Frenchman.
Mamadou Sakho is on loan at London club Crystal Palace after numerous transgressions at Liverpool led to him being frozen out. The former Paris-Saint Germain skipper was training with the reserves to keep fit before Alan Pardew came knocking.
Drugs, sex and rock n’ roll stole Mamadou Sakho’s innocence. Not quite. Although, that would’ve made a brilliant title.
A scandal last season with fat burners resulted in Sakho being suspended by UEFA and he ultimately missed out on the Europa League final with Liverpool and the Euro final with France.
Following that, Sakho was sent home from Liverpool’s pre-season tour of the United States and then demonstrated poor judgement by taking to Snapchat to vent his frustration at Liverpool’s stance on his disciplinary misdemeanours.
Klopp, however, seems like he might be prepared to give the Frenchman a second chance.
“That is nothing we have to decide in this moment,” the German coach told SFR Sport when questioned on Sakho’s future with Liverpool.
“So that is it. He made his first appearance after a really long time and so all we have to is to be focused on the season and this squad here.
“I will not talk to you about potential transfers we make, so it makes no sense to talk about players we gave on loan.
“We will see.”
Recalling Sakho might make sense given Liverpool’s issues at the back. A central pairing of Matip and Sakho could be something that works wonders for the Reds with both great ball players, both good in the air and both good leaders.
