Liverpool are reportedly ready to bring five or six high-profile signings in this summer with Alexandre Lacazette and Naby Keita among those being targetted.
Squad depth has been a well-documented issue of Liverpool’s this season. There are a number of players in the squad, like Philippe Coutinho, Sadio Mané and Jöel Matip, who possess the quality to continue playing on Merseyside, but a large portion of the team is merely above average.
The likes of Lucas Leiva, Alberto Moreno and even Emre Can are said to be on the way out this summer. Daniel Sturridge is also nearing the end of his Anfield career, despite Liverpool rejecting a loan bid in January.
The spine of Liverpool’s team is not capable of challenging for trophies, even domestically. The Mirror’s Dave Maddock claims that Jürgen Klopp is targeting five to six high-profile signings this summer and will go after Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette and Red Bull Leipzig’s Naby Keita.
Klopp hinted this week that he will be addressing the striking situation concerning Daniel Sturridge in the summer, sparking rumours that the forward will be off once the season is over.
Let’s be honest, here. Just judging from the way Sturridge’s Liverpool career has stagnated in the year and a half under Klopp, it makes sense for him to leave. Even if Klopp hadn’t commented on the situation, we are all aware to some extent that Sturridge won’t be at Liverpool in the next few seasons.
If Maddock can be trusted, or rather his sources are trustworthy, then signing a forward like Lacazette could be revolutionary for Liverpool. The forward is an incredible finisher and very strong, perfect for the Premier League.
His desire to move this summer and his open acclamation that England is a viable destination means that a move to Liverpool isn’t out of the question. Of course, it would help hugely if Liverpool qualify for the Champions League and FSG aren’t so tight this summer.
The other player Maddock mentions as a target for Liverpool is Red Bull Leipzig’s Naby Keita. There have been a number of revelations for the Bundesliga side and the Guinean midfielder is one of them.
He could not be more perfect for Liverpool. To a tee, his physique, style of play and mentality all fall in line with the ideal footballer that Klopp looks for. Furthermore, his versatility would be huge for the fluidity of the team. Keita can function as an attacking midfielder and is just as able to adopt a defensive midfield role.
The issue will be beating other clubs to his signature. Keita has performed to such a high level this season that there will be an immense number of clubs looking to sign him. Hopefully, Klopp and FSG will realise the opportunity to sign a player that can revolutionise Liverpool’s midfield.
