According to Globo Esporte, via TalkSPORT, Liverpool are interested in signing Santos prodigy Rodrygo.
How many times have we heard that Liverpool are signing the next Pogba or the next Zlatan Ibrahimovic. As per the norm, it usually ends with clubs like Borussia Dortmund signing them ahead of the Reds. Take Alexander Isak as a prime example.
With that in mind, take the next few lines with a pinch of salt. Globo Esporte claim that Liverpool are very interested in signing Rodrygo, the Santos wonderkid, and have already submitted a formal bid for the player who has been labelled as the “next Neymar.”
What a burden to carry.
Due to the obvious connection of playing for Santos and the young Brazilian’s undeniable talent, a lot of hype surrounds his future in world football. He is set to be promoted to Santos’ first team in the coming months and if he comes anywhere near the level that Neymar has reached with Barcelona, he is going to be a gem.
The Brazil U17 has been tipped to have a bright future with a Nike deal being signed at the young age of 11. Santos are aware that they will be able to demand a much higher transfer fee if Rodrgyo makes his mark on the senior level and are likely to wait for the youngster to join up with the first team before selling him is even considered.
As much as signing the “next Neymar” could prove profitable, Liverpool’s priority needs to be targeting players of the quality that will change their fortunes in the immediate future. For too long Liverpool have squandered the chance to progress by signing the likes of Lazar Markovic and Rickie Lambert instead of players like Alexis Sánchez and Diego Costa.
Alexandre Lacazette is leaving Lyon this summer and it offers Liverpool the chance to have a go at signing him. He would greatly improve the team with his presence in the box and goalscoring record.
