Any dreams Liverpool supporters had of signing William Carvalho have had ice cold water poured on them by none other than James Pearce.
Liverpool fans can’t have it all.
Today, Philippe Coutinho signed a new five-year contract and that should satisfy supporters, right?
Yesterday, Portuguese news outlet A Bola reported that Liverpool representatives had jetted to Lisbon to discuss the transfer of Sporting’s William Carvalho. Cue James Pearce.
The Liverpool ECHO reporter held a live web chat on the ECHO’s site and he responded to questions about whether or not Liverpool were targeting Carvalho.
@BrazilBoysLFC Yes, if you want me to. It’s rubbish

Liverpool have often struggled with a lack of physicality in their midfield despite the presence of Jordan Henderson and Emre Can. Players like Carvalho and Geoffrey Kondogbia have been mentioned as targets but they have turned out as nothing more than the usual rubbish fed into the internet by the various tabloids as a means to generate views.
It’s not surprising, though, is it?
And I’m not talking about the tabloids anymore. Jürgen Klopp has repeatedly mentioned how he won’t buy just for the sake of buying. It’s one of the many reasons why he is such a breath of fresh air when compared to Brendan Rodgers. The Northern-Irishman bought so many duds that the club is still dealing with the after-effects.
All that, however, fades to irrelevance this evening as Anfield welcomes Southampton for the EFL Cup semi-final second leg. The Reds have a shot at redemption after going 1-0 down in the first leg at St. Mary’s and new signings couldn’t help them tonight anyway.
