Philippe Coutinho and Nathaniel Clyne both missing from training

In news that made just about everyone Liverpool fan on social media lose their minds, it would seem as though Nathaniel Clyne and Philippe Coutinho were both absent from training.

The club released training photos yesterday on their club website and neither Coutinho nor Clyne could be spotted in any of the images.

There is only one plausible reason for both players to be missing from training and that’s injury. Especially considering they’ve both returned from respective spells out on the sidelines and while Coutinho was sidelined for a longer period of time, they are of equal importance to the team.

Heading into Wednesday’s EFL Cup semi-final second leg clash against Southampton, losing either of Coutinho or Clyne would be a momentous blow but to have both miss out would be a massive blow to Liverpool’s chances of turning around the 1-0 deficit from the first leg.

Coutinho’s absence from training may have something to do with his substitution after 57 minutes against Swansea City on Saturday. Despite Jürgen Klopp saying it was because he didn’t want to rush him back, perhaps Coutinho is suffering fatigue after his injury.

He said, “That is how it is. You could force it and say ‘come on, come on, you need to go through it’.

“But even in a situation when you are 2-0 down when you’ve decided we need to change things, we are really serious about things like this.

“Sometimes we have had a problem and we’ve had to force players to come through the games, but really here with him it makes no sense.”

As worrying as it might look, there is no point jumping to conclusions – this isn’t the S*n. Rather, let’s hope both players were in for massages ahead of what should be a gruelling test for both players and while it does look quite worrying, nothing will come of stressing before a report is released or the team news comes out tomorrow.
