Liverpool have been linked with the signing of Spartak Moscow’s Quincy Promes and Georginio Wijnaldum wants him to join.

Two weeks ago, the Liverpool Echo reported that Promes was on Liverpool’s radar with Jurgen Klopp looking to find cover for Sadio Mane with the Senegal attacker due in Gabon soon for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Promes is a highly skillful, pacy and direct forward and one who would come in almost as a like for like replacement for Mane. The Echo reported that Moscow want £25 million for his signature and being on the verge of signing Luiz Adriano, Promes will not be missed all that much.

Georginio Wijnaldum says that his compatriot Promes knows what it means to play for Liverpool but is unaware of the veracity of transfer claims.

“I think Quincy knows how great Liverpool is, I knew it before I came here,” Wijnaldum said, as quoted by Goal. “Of course I want him to come to Liverpool because I know he is a good player and also a good person who can help the team.

“I do not know if everything is true about what they say as I do not speak with him about that. It is something for the manager and the scouts, not for me. I just read it in the papers or on the internet.”

Promes can play anywhere across the front three and this interchangeability is what Klopp will be interested in as it is what makes Liverpool’s attack so hard to stop. A front three of Firmino, Promes and Coutinho when he returns would be very capable of managing without Sadio Mane.

Liverpool are in need of a new winger and Promes does fit the bill, but we will really have to wait and see if there is any truth to these reports. Despite the Echo saying it’s unlikely for Promes to sign this month, I certainly hope he does as he looks exciting and would fit in well under Klopp.
