According to Las Palmas’ club president, Liverpool are very interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain’s Jese Rodriguez.

Las Palmas president Miguel Angel Ramirez is reported as being pessimistic about his club’s chances of signing Jese with the likes of Liverpool, AC Milan and Roma all interested in signing him.

Las Provincia newspaper reported Ramirez as saying, “Jese Rodriguez is a great footballer. He wants to come to Las Palmas, but he is owned by PSG and earns a salary that is of his level — and that is very high.

“Liverpool, Milan and Roma want Jese and are ready to pay what he earns. We cannot afford that salary.

“With respect to other clubs, we are at a disadvantage and hence we have to wait. But we don’t want to create false expectations.”

Liverpool are looking for someone to cover for Sadio Mane when the forward leaves in a few days to join his compatriots for the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon. When Mane signed in the summer from Southampton, it’s no secret that he had more critics than admirers but he could not have done a better job of shutting up the critics.

You could argue that Mane’s price tag hurt a little, with £36 million a lot to pay for a player that hasn’t really done anything significant in the game. If Liverpool look to sign Jese Rodriguez in January, it can be done for £25 million and then there will be a cost-effective solution to Klopp’s issues on the wing.

If he performs that is.

Jese was sold by Real Madrid to Paris Saint-Germain and then just five months after the forward signed for the Ligue 1 side, rumours started about him leaving the club. If he was brilliant he would be able to find a club and make it stick and while it could just be a matter of lack of game time at two of the biggest clubs in the world, where there’s smoke there’s fire.

It’s very interesting to see what Klopp is going to go for in January. Will he go for the trickery and nuance of Sardar Azmoun or will he go for the raw pace that the likes of Wilfried Zaha and Quincy Promes offer.

Regardless of who Klopp is actually in for, it’s pleasing to see that Klopp and his staff have plugged the media leaks which plagued the club in the last few years with every transfer negotiation more like an episode of Suits than your run of the mill contract discussion.

Rodriguez? Promes? Zaha? Azmoun? Who do you think and want Liverpool to sign in January.
