According to reports, Liverpool are considering making a bid for Arsenal midfielder AleX Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Sadio Mane will be with Liverpool for a few days before leaving for the African Cup of Nations which is scheduled to take place in Gabon in January. His departure will seriously weaken Liverpool in wide areas as his pace and positive approach to the game are assets that many have come to love about the Senegal international.
Although Philippe Coutinho is due back from an ankle injury in the next week or so, the Brazilian’s return date is still somewhat unknown and until then, there will be a very serious squad depth issue.
Last month, Jurgen Klopp made it clear that he would buy a new attacker in January to cover for the loss of Danny Ings to long-term injury and Sadio Mane to international duty – little did he know that Coutinho and Joel Matip would also be troubled by their own injuries.
The Telegraph are reporting that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is an option for Jurgen Klopp. The Arsenal player is very versatile and can play anywhere in midfield, bar defensive midfield, although he has played there before.

At the end of this season, Chamberlain will have just one year left on his contract and Arsenal will run the risk of losing him for less than the £20-25 million they could demand now.
Chamberlain has spoken of his admiration for Klopp in the past, speaking glowingly about his work with Jordan Henderson and Adam Lallana. There is no doubt that with Chamberlain’s raw talent and insatiable desire to impress, Klopp could work his magic and help unlock the potential that has been shown in fits and bursts at the Emirates.
Despite scoring six goals and creating a further six for his teammates, Chamberlain is growing frustrated by his game time. He is yet to complete 90 minutes this season and might be tempted by a more promising role at Liverpool – not that I’m sure he’ll find one.
Liverpool, despite their absentees, have several attackers who can do a job for the side on their day. Daniel Sturridge is one who has just returned from injury and scored a goal against Stoke City and was crucial to Sadio Mane scoring the winner in the derby last week.
If Liverpool bid for Chamberlain, the 23-year-old will want assurances regarding his game time as his motivation is due to a lack of starting roles at Arsenal. The January window will definitely mean new arrivals for Liverpool, but we’ll have to see if one of those will be Arsenal’s frustrated wide midfielder.
