According to the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool’s chances of signing German star Julian Draxler are slim with Paris Saint-Germain in the front seat.
Liverpool have gone from being linked with Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha to being cited as one of Julian Draxler’s suitors in the space of 24 hours. Sometimes, it’s pretty strange being a Liverpool supporter.
Jurgen Klopp is an admirer of Draxler but Paris Saint-Germain are in the driving seat and Wolfsburg are holding out for a £35 million fee.
Draxler only moved to Wolfsburg from Schalke last season and the 23-year-old is blessed with incredible potential and a deft touch which earned him a place in Germany’s Euro 2016 squad and scored a sublimely controlled volley against Slovakia in France.
The 2014 World Cup winner told Bild, via the Liverpool Echo, “I am in talks with a couple of clubs, but so far no decision has been made.
“We will all sit down and make a sensible decision that is suitable for us.”
Draxler played in Wolfburg’s 2-1 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach and it’s believed to be his last appearance for Die Knappen as Paris Saint-Germain are expected to sign the German before the close of the January transfer window and the end of the winter break.
Klopp is looking for a winger to cover Sadio Mane as the Senegal international is due to jet off to the African Cup of Nations next month to join his compatriots in Gabon. While Draxler’s name may have been scratched from Liverpool’s transfer shortlist, there are sure to be many others and Zaha looks a capable option although the likelihood of the deal happening is questionable.
