Chrisitan Pulisic is supposedly Jurgen Klopp’s number one target for the January transfer window but it would seem as though Liverpool will miss out on the American.
Liverpool will be even more shorthanded in attack when Sadio Mane heads to Gabon for the African Cup of Nations next month. Although Philippe Coutinho is hoping to make a comeback at the end of December, Jurgen Klopp will still be left with a depleted attack.
Against West Ham on Sunday afternoon, Ben Woodburn was Liverpool’s only option from the bench which speaks to the lack of depth in reserve in attacking areas and this is an issue Klopp is actively trying to accommodate.
One player who has been heavily linked and seems to be a likely option is Borussia Dortmund’s Christian Pulisic. Speculation in recent weeks has suggested that Fenway Sports Group would love to have an American footballer at the club and this points towards a January move for the winger.
But, and this is quite a significant but, Michael Zorc, Dortmund’s sporting director, issued a hands-off warning a few weeks ago but has now made it clear that Liverpool can’t have Pulisic.
“We have communicated very clearly that we won’t sell Christian, and that he’s very much part of our plans,” Zorc told Bild on Tuesday. “Liverpool don’t need to waste their time.”
With that pretty much ending any chance of Liverpool signing Pulisic, it will be quite interesting to see who Klopp decides to sign. Celtic’s Moussa Dembele has been linked with Liverpool, but once again, it’s unlikely that Brendan Rodgers will be open to selling his inform Frenchman.
