Paris Saint-Germain are set to challenge Liverpool in the race to sign exciting winger Christian Pulisic.
Liverpool are in the market for a new winger and many are tipping Christian Pulisic as the man to cover for Sadio Mane when the Senegal attacker jets off to Gabon next month to take part in the African Cup of Nations.
Injury to Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho revealed just how easily Liverpool’s depth in attack can be exposed. Last month, Klopp said that he would buy in January to compensate for Mane’s injury and provide cover in light of Danny Ings’ horrible knee injury.
“We watch the market all the time and of course we need to be prepared for different situations and one of them is injuries,” Klopp said.
“The African Cup of Nations we already knew about so we don’t need to be influenced or surprised by that, but it could be a moment when we approach the market.
“It’s not about how many strikers. Three strikers is enough, I think. But when Sadio is away we will be without a winger. We do not have many wingers, I would say.”
Since Klopp made his revelation regarding his plan to buy in January, there have been plenty of speculative reports saying that Klopp is in for this winger or is keen on that striker. One of the most likely rumours is that regarding Borussia Dortmund’s Christian Pulisic.
The American winger is on Liverpool’s radar even if he isn’t going to join the club as soon as next month. Bild, via the Express, claim that Paris Saint-Germain will challenge Liverpool for the Pulisic’s signature, with the French club favourites.
The report says that Dortmund are likely to set a high transfer fee in an attempt to fend off suitors. Buying players in January is always tricky as clubs are unwilling to let their best talents go without time to find adequate replacements. FSG have given Jurgen Klopp an impressive transfer kitty and Liverpool will pay what it takes if the club’s owners believe that Klopp can transform Pulisic into a world class talent.
