Eden Hazard believes that Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City are the front-runners for the league title this season.
At the beginning of the season, Liverpool weren’t considered title challengers as a result of their clear defensive insecurities but now it is difficult to deny the Reds’ credentials and after 12 games, Jurgen Klopp’s side has been one of the most enjoyable sides to watch.
Level on points with Manchester City but ahead on goal difference, Liverpool are behind Chelsea on the league table and there is a growing sense that the Merseyside club can be a real threat this season. It started in the form of teams paying more and more respect Liverpool, but now players like Eden Hazard are publicly speaking about the threat Liverpool pose this season.
When asked to name the teams Chelsea need to beat this season to win the league, Hazard said, “Man City and Liverpool.
“They’re both good. If we want to be there at the end we have to finish above them.
“Two months ago we went to Arsenal and we weren’t ready – but now we know what we have to do. We will give everything and be ready for the game.
“We don’t want to stop now. We want to keep going like this. We want to win every game.
“Everyone is confident. We are winning games, playing well, creating chances. Everyone is involved and that’s the key to the success.”
Liverpool beat Chelsea 2-1 at Stamford Bridge in September and will play Manchester City at Anfield on New Year’s Eve. While Liverpool may struggled in the past to see off the ‘smaller’ teams in the league, they have never had much difficulty with rising to the occasion of beating the bigger sides in the league. This season, Liverpool has not lost a game against any of their top six challengers and this big game form has set them up for an exciting season.
Chelsea and City go head to head on Saturday which will either give Liverpool the chance to put some distance between them and City, leapfrog Chelsea or both. Crucial to this will be victory over Bournemouth at Dean Court which will continue the Reds impressive run of form in the Premier League which has seen Liverpool go without loss since the second game of the season.
