According to Le 10 Sport, via The Daily Star, Liverpool are interested in signing Max Meyer in the January transfer window.
Liverpool were supposedly interested in Max Meyer in the summer but little came of it and now it would seem as though Jurgen Klopp is looking to sign the German to bolster the Reds’ chances of Premier League success this season.
If there is genuine interest from Liverpool, then they aren’t alone in targeting Meyer. Tottenham tried to sign the Schalke midfielder in the summer but all chances of a deal were scuppered by the Bundesliga club’s refusal to sell.
Speaking in an interview with German newspaper Bild this week, he said, “I know that there was interest and the club was asked, but Schalke immediately put a stop to it. So the matter was settled.”
While Liverpool wouldn’t usually need more attacking midfielders, Sadio Mane is heading to the African Cup of Nations in January and this opens up a slot in the squad for a player to force his way into Jurgen Klopp’s plans for the future. What will happen when Mane returns is unknown but Klopp has made it clear he needs another attacker for the time that the former Southampton man is away.
The report from Le 10 Sport, via The Daily Star, says that although Schalke were unwilling to sell in the summer after losing Leroy Sane, Klopp “might be tempted to test their resolve in January.”
