Liverpool could fork out £45 million for La Liga star in January

According to Don Balon, Liverpool might activate Inaki William’s £45 million release clause this January.

With Sadio Mane set to jet off to the African Cup of Nations in January, Liverpool will be a little bit low on pace and power and the answer to this might be to sign another winger in his stead. This man could be Inaki Williams.

Not only would signing another winger cover Liverpool for the time that Mane is absent, it would also drive competition for starting places when he returns to England after AFCON. Another reported alternative is Lorenzo Insigne, who has had contract disputes with Napoli after his wage demands were not met.

Don Balon report that if any club is interested in signing Inaki Williams then they will have to meet Athletic Bilbao’s steep asking price of £45 million. While Liverpool may have the cash, whether or not owners Fenway Sports Group would sanction such a deal is another story entirely.

Mane joined in the summer for a fee that will rise to £36 million and even that made people turn their heads. If Liverpool were to sign Williams, a player with no Premier League experience and minimal international background, it would be difficult to justify the requisite £45 million price tag.

At the end of the day, I cannot see John W. Henry paying nearly £50 million for a 22 year old who hasn’t been capped for his country multiple times.

Just like you, I am a hugely passionate Liverpool supporter. I started Rousing the Kop in January 2015 and since then it has grown tremendously and has even been nominated as 'Best New Football Blog' in the Football Blogging Awards.

  1. Lfc have spent over a billion in the last 15 yrs so stop believing manchester media bull.. Utd owe 400 m and have missed interest payments last year but sssshhh

  2. Liverpool has the money but I think it boils down to one question – does Klopp think he is worth it with Mane already on the team? I think he is more likely to pursue players like Dahoud and Tah who will likely be upgrades and play position that lack the depth we have up front.
