Look away now Liverpool fans. Luis Suarez has revealed that he intends to finish his career at Barcelona.

There isn’t a single Liverpool fan who, on some level, hasn’t dreamt of Luis Suarez making a glorious return to Anfield and winning the league in a fairytale reunion. Sadly, this looks unlikely to ever happen as Suarez has expressed that he intends to end his playing career with Barcelona.

Earlier this year it emerged that Manchester City had shortlisted Suarez as an option up-front and the Uruguayan said that Liverpool would be the only English team he’d ever play for. This sent fans into overdrive imagining Suarez’ return to Merseyside, but speaking at a ceremony where he would be handed the Golden Shoe, the striker has dashed these hopes.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Suarez said, “I want to thank Barca for bringing me here and allowing me to fulfill my goals. My team-mates play a part in all my goals,” said Suarez.

“I have magnificent team-mates who make it easy for me but I don’t want to take anything away from myself – you still have to score.

“I hope I can finish my career at Barca but I need to be at the highest level to compete.

“I have fought a lot in my life and, since coming to Barca, I am trying to enjoy it, be happy and win trophies.

“I’m in the best team in the world with the best players.”

C’mon Luis. We know you’re bluffing.
