According to Italian outlet CalcioMercato, Jurgen Klopp will make an early move to sign Torino forward Andrea Botelli ahead of Arsenal.

Liverpool has scored the second-highest number of goals this season and yet none of these have come from a recognised striker. Jurgen Klopp could be looking to change how his team lines up with a move for Torino’s Andrea Botelli.

Botelli has been in fine form this season and has managed to score five goals and make two assists in five games. If Liverpool did make a move for Botelli it would make very little sense. The Reds currently have a vast array of striking options, although none of them are featuring heavily for Klopp.

Daniel Sturridge has played in six of Liverpool’s Premier League games this season but is yet to find the back of the net. His form is worrying and he only looked close to his old self in the 4-1 victory over Leicester City.

Another forward who isn’t having much luck this season is Divock Origi. The Belgian was hitting top form last season and was Liverpool’s main striker but things seemed to have turned around. Danny Ings, despite being dropped to the reserves, has put his head down and scored nine goals for Michael Beale’s u-23s.

Even though Liverpool might not necessarily need  a new forward, there would be no harm in furthering the sense of competition within the squad. CalcioMercato believes that Klopp will make a move before Arsenal and that the Gunners are preparing themselves to make a big-money move.

That doesn’t make sense either as Arsene Wenger just signed Lucas Perez and knowing Arsene Wenger, there is hardly any chance of the Frenchman making a signing unless he absolutely has to.

Klopp isn’t a manager who likes making adjustments to his squad mid-season. If there is any truth to this report, Liverpool will only make any moves towards the end of the campaign to sign him early in the next summer transfer window.
