According to Calciomercato, Liverpool has contacted Porto midfielder Ruben Neves’ agent over a possible deal.
The Portuguese midfielder has a release clause of €40 million which means that Liverpool is unlikely to target him seriously given the club’s transfer model of buying young players for pennies and then selling them on for bank-breaking amounts.
Neves, 19, is a player who comes with enormous expectations after bursting onto the scene with Porto at the age of 17. Calciomercato says that both Chelsea and Juventus are interested in the Portuguese midfielder.
Liverpool has a well-stocked midfielder and with rumours that Geoffrey Kondogbia might join in the January transfer window on loan, there isn’t much room for Neves – especially at €40 million. FSG wouldn’t go for a deal like this and you could bet your house that this story is just a whisper in the wind rather than a report of substance.
With the form of Liverpool’s midfielders this season, there aren’t many players that I can see easily making their way into Klopp’s engine room. Henderson, Lallana and Wijnaldum have been superb this season and Emre Can, Marko Grujic and Lucas Leiva are all waiting for a chance to cement a place in Klopp’s starting lineup.

With Lallana and Wijnaldum both doubts to face United, there will be opportunity to impress Liverpool’s manager with a good display against Manchester United.
