Liverpool was heavily tipped to sign Jonas Hector in the summer but it would seem as though Inter Milan is joining the race for his signature.

While there were almost perpetual links between Liverpool and Jonas Hector in the summer, I’m not entirely convinced that he was actually a priority for the club. Jurgen Klopp is very much like a brattish child. When he wants something or someone, he gets it. If Klopp really wanted to sign Hector there would’ve been more effort put into pursuing him.

When the summer transfer window slammed shut and Liverpool hadn’t signed a new left back to challenge Alberto Moreno, fans lost it. After two shocking cup final performances last season, supporters wanted the Spaniard fullback gone.

What fans didn’t realise was that Klopp had a contingency plan. He tried James Milner at left-back a few times during pre-season but few supporters made much of it except that it was strange for Klopp not to be preparing Moreno for the season ahead, especially as he was the first choice fullback at the time.

After a shocking display from Moreno against Arsenal on the opening day of the season, Milner was introduced into the team and has been Klopp’s go-to left-back ever since.

According to the Express in Germany, Inter Milan is prepared to offer €30 million for Jonas Hector. Liverpool was supposedly put off by Cologne’s asking price in January and with Inter hiking the fee up, even more, FSG would be unlikely to sanction a deal worth €30 million for a 26-year-old who isn’t acquainted with the Premier League.

It would be great to have a quality natural left-back, but you really can’t fault James Milner at the moment. Klopp seems content with Milner and therefore I am too.
