Michael Mongie takes a look at three Liverpool players who are on the fringe of the squad and are fighting to break into Jurgen Klopp’s team.

For the first time in years, Liverpool has a squad where there is genuine competition for places. There is so much fight for starting spots that Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge are no longer guaranteed starters.

In years gone by, Liverpool has had one or two undisputed stars of the team and those players were irreplaceable. Players like Sturridge and Suarez were pivotal in the club’s success of the 2013/14 season but when Suarez departed in the summer of 2014 and Sturridge went through a string of bad injuries, the effect on the team was devastating.

This season, however, even if Coutinho and Sturridge were to pick up long-term injuries, there are two or three players raring to go and would jump at the opportunity to play in their stead.
