According to the Liverpool Echo, Ian Ayre will join 1860 Munich as the club’s general manager.
Ayre has been identified as a man who can help the German side in their efforts to achieve promotion to the Bundesliga. Jordanian businessman Hasan Ismaik is the club’s majority shareholder and, as James Pearce phrased it,”is planning a big shake-up in order to push for promotion to the Bundesliga and targeted Ayre to be part of it.”
“We want to get the best people to help us,” Ismaik told Bavarian newspaper Munchner Merkur, via the Echo.
“Peter Cassalette (club president) and I have led the conversations with him. He is the right person for our future.
“The fact that we were able to convince such a big name to come from a world association to 1860, we are proud. That was not easy,
“When he found out about the tradition of the club, he was very enthusiastic.”
Many supporters have a skewed perception about Ian Ayre and the boyhood Liverpool fan has a bad rap for deals that many perceive to be his fault. This isn’t fair, after all, he managed to sign Roberto Firmino – that’s boss.
Arguably his finest hour as Liverpool’s CEO came during the disastrous Being Liverpool documentary when Brendan Rodgers was talking to Joe Allen about his shirt number and Ayre shouted “69” from the doorway.
On that note, we at Rousing the Kop, wish Ian well and hope that 1860 Munich succeed in their mission to achieve promotion to the Bundesliga.
