Emre Can was among those pictured training at Melwood today as Liverpool prepare to take on Chelsea on Friday.

Liverpool missed Emre Can at defensive midfield while the German was out with an ankle injury sustained during an EFL Cup tie with Burton Albion. Jordan Henderson was forced to take up the unfamiliar role and it was clear just how uncomfortable he was in the Red’s 2-0 defeat against Burnley.

It’s great to have him back as he will be vital to breaking up opponents’ attacks and recycling play.

The training session seemed to be enjoyable with most of the lads wearing smiles on their faces. One thing that must be said about Jurgen Klopp’s training is that the lads always seem to be enjoying themselves.

Although, I can’t see too many smiles while the players are doing conditioning. It has to be done if Klopp wants his team to constantly play the high-intensity football that has been on show this season. Adam Lallana and Sadio Mane have been relentless in their pressing and it’s all down to the fitness work they go through on the training pitch.

Klopp will be busy readying his players to face an extremely physical and well-drilled Chelsea side on Friday evening. The hope is that Emre Can will be introduced so that there is a tad more robustness to the Reds’ football.
