According to the Express’ Paul Joyce, Mamadou Sakho returned to training with Liverpool yesterday with Jurgen Klopp refusing to freeze out the Frenchman.

The last six months have been turbulent for Sakho, to say the least. He was accused of illegal drug usage and was then sent home from Liverpool’s pre-season tour after breaking club rules on three separate occasions.

Despite this, Klopp will not ostracize Sakho and banish him to train on his own. According to Paul Joyce, Sakho returned to training yesterday and took part in the session as overseen by Klopp. Although the former Paris Saint-Germain defender rejected several loan moves away from Liverpool, he is aware of the fact that he will receive very little game time this season.

With Klopp not exiling Sakho, there is the off chance that he could return to playing this season. Considering there are apparent behavioural issues with Sakho, it’s probably best that he does his time on the sidelines. Klopp is a superb judge of character and if he thinks that Sakho is bad for the team then we have to trust his judgement.

Just like you, I am a hugely passionate Liverpool supporter. I started Rousing the Kop in January 2015 and since then it has grown tremendously and has even been nominated as 'Best New Football Blog' in the Football Blogging Awards.

  1. Michael Mongie, I really hope this works out for Sakho – at 25, he is due to come into his best years as a CB. Either he has been badly advised or is still learning what being a pro footballer means but imho he is the closest thing to Carragher that LFC has. ‘Turbulent’ is a good description – hope that he is played for the League Cup-type games; guess that would be the best indication he is back in the LFC fold
