Danny Murphy has given Sadio Mane his backing to become a ‘superstar’ with Liverpool after impressive opening months with the club.

On his competitive debut for the Reds, the former Southampton man netted a superb solo goal against Arsenal after driving down the Gunners’ right flank. His performances earned many plaudits and he has been tipped to become Liverpool’s main man this season – even more so than he has in the opening weeks.

The Senegal international picked up a minor shoulder injury in training two weeks ago and his absence was felt as his side crumbled to a 2-0 defeat against Burnley. His presence at the club is felt and Danny Murphy feels as though he can become a ‘superstar’ under Jurgen Klopp.

Speaking to the BBC, the former-Red said, “I’m really excited by Mane. I think, being a Liverpool supporter, he gives them something different and he showed in the first game at Arsenal that he’s not going to be scared of the pressure of playing for Liverpool.

“That’s always the worry when you go to a big club, can you cope with the pressure that’s on you to perform and he doesn’t look like that type. Even at Tottenham at the weekend he was fantastic and I think he could be a superstar for Liverpool this season.”

Just two and a half weeks prior, Thierry Henry said while on air with Sky Sports,”The outsider for me who I think will have a good season is Sadio Mané at Liverpool.

“I want to see how he is going to do and with the way Liverpool play I think he could have a very good season and be a crowd favourite.”
