Piotr Zielinski, who has signed for Napoli, reveals he held unsuccessful talks with Liverpool prior to his move to the Serie A.

Do you remember Piotr Zielinski? Do you remember how ridiculously long-winded the rumours linking him a with move to Liverpool were? Yeah well, he’s at Napoli now but he’s revealed that there were genuine negotiations with the Reds over a potential move to Merseyside but it just didn’t materialise.

Jürgen Klopp is supposedly a big admirer of the Poland international and there was a lot of talk about a £9.5 million move for the midfielder, but, as the player has revealed, it didn’t quite pan out.

The Express say that Zielinski snubbed Liverpool, but I’m not so sure that’s the case. It’s more likely that he didn’t feel like he’d play regularly enough at Liverpool and decided against a move.

Zielinski reveals talks were held with Liverpool

“With Liverpool, there were talks but it didn’t happen,” he told Polish outlet Sportowefakty.

“But I’m happy to be at Napoli. They’re one of the best teams for a 22-year-old to join.

“Looking at their style of play and my qualities, I couldn’t have made a better choice.

“I’m a reserve at the moment, but I’ve only just arrived. Here, [the players] are all very strong.

“[My £55m release clause] is impressive. This means that Napoli expect good games from me and wants to protect themselves.

“On one side, it’s a good feeling to know that a club have paid so much for you, but on the other, I try not to think about it and don’t feel too much pressure.

“Apparently I’ve just had a great season, so this [move] is priceless.”

If clubs have to spend £55 million sign him in the future, it’s unlikely he’ll ever play for anyone but Napoli.
