In keeping with Wednesday’s Anfield exodus, Lazar Markovic is expected to be the last departure with his season-long loan to Sporting Lisbon.

The winger, who failed to make an impression on Jurgen Klopp during pre-season, will spend the 2016/17 season on loan with Sporting Lisbon, according to ESPN FC. He is familiar with Portugal’s Primeira Liga, having played there with Benfica prior to his £20 million move to Liverpool.

Markovic will use his loan with Sporting Lisbon to play regularly with the aim of catching Jurgen Klopp’s eye from afar. It’s a tricky strategy and will more than likely result in Markovic’s sale next season.

The Serbian winger initially rejected a move to Portugal but eventually decided to move to Sporting Lisbon.

Jurgen Klopp praised the 22-year-old’s attitude earlier this month, but did admit that his future was up in the air.

“He’s in a good way and he’s a nice lad, good boy, funny, works hard,” Klopp said. “At the end we have to see how we will build our squad. We have time between now and Aug. 31 where maybe something will happen.”

Liverpool has been very busy today with a number of players departing, both on loan and in permanent deals.
