James Rodriguez won’t be going to Liverpool, or anywhere for that matter, as reports in Spain suggest he wants to make an impression on Zinedine Zidane.

The transfer window will be coming to a close at 11pm on Wednesday evening, which means that any deals that are to be completed need to be in motion already.

Liverpool was linked, rather tenuously, with the signing of James Rodriguez last week. The brilliant Colombian would be a joy to have at Liverpool, but is it necessary? I think not.

Spanish newspaper Sport, via the Liverpool Echo, now report that the Real Madrid midfielder wants to stay in Madrid in an attempt to impress Zinedine Zidane and break into the starting side. Rodriguez hasn’t been able to cement his place in the side since arriving in Madrid from Monaco after his stunning displays at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

I don’t really think you can consider this as a blow because Liverpool is well stocked in attacking midfield, and it is unlikely the Reds were ever investigating a move for the Colombian midfielder.
