Mamadou Sakho has turned down a loan move to Stoke City and it could be an indication that he’ll remain at Liverpool this season.

Liverpool has made Mamadou Sakho available for loan after the Frenchman returned from an Achilles tendon injury which saw him miss Liverpool’s pre-season. Stoke City have shown significant interest as Mark Hughes is looking to bring in a centre-half before the close of the transfer window on Wednesday.

According to the Mirror, Sakho is not interested in moving to Stoke on loan which leaves Hughes in a difficult position. The report says that he could turn to Manchester United’s Phil Jones.

With Sakho turning down a loan move, could it be that he will be staying at Liverpool this season? There are only 2 days left of the transfer window and there aren’t many clubs chasing his signature, and Sakho’s rejection of Stoke’s offer could be an indication that he will stay at Liverpool for the 2016/17 season.

It would be good for squad competition if Sakho remained on Merseyside, but it’s clear that Klopp doesn’t intend to reinstate him immediately so the Parisian could face a spell on the sidelines. Either way, it’s unlikely that Sakho will be playing for the Reds anytime soon.
